The Level 3 Diploma in Engineering at Coventry Global Institute (CGI) is a 60-credit university foundation programme, equivalent to one A-level. This course provides learners with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for a career in engineering, covering areas such as engineering principles, design technology, electricity, mechanics, statistics, and mathematics.

Upon successful completion, students receive an OTHM Level 3 qualification, fully regulated by Ofqual. Graduates can progress to a full undergraduate degree programme at various UK universities or continue with the Level 4/5 Diploma in Engineering, followed by an undergraduate top-up degree.

The Level 3 Diploma in Engineering consists of six modules and six written assignments. Each module includes approximately 40 guided learning hours, supplemented by 30-50 hours of additional recommended exercises, readings, digital resources, and self-test tasks.

1. Engineering Principles
    • Applications of SI units and measurements
    • Performing engineering calculations
    • Interpretation of engineering information
2. Design Technology
    • Understanding engineering products and design
    • Applying a systems approach to electrical design

Producing 2D CAD drawings

3. Electricity
    • Functions of basic electrical components
    • Application of AC and DC circuit theory
    • Understanding power supplies and system protection
4. Mechanics
    • Motion of objects in mathematical terms
    • Understanding energy changes in a system
    • Energy transfer, forces, and elasticity
5. Introducing Statistics
    • Concepts related to statistical analysis
    • Understanding different data types and representation
    • Calculating and interpreting statistical diagrams and measures
6. Mathematics
    • Understanding exponentials, logarithms, trigonometry, and calculus

Upon completion of the Level 3 Diploma in Engineering, students can apply for full undergraduate degree programmes at leading UK universities, including:

Alternatively, students may continue with our Level 4/5 Diploma in Engineering, followed by an undergraduate top-up degree at a range of UK institutions.
